Matiri River Resource Consent Approved

The Resource Consent application by New Zealand Energy to build a dam on the Matiri River has been approved in its entirety.
This is terrible news for this river, meaning that the Matiri will soon be destroyed. The commission said that their decision fits with the NZ Energy Strategy and the draft NPS Renewable Electricity Generation, and made a comment that:
New Zealand regards hydropower as "renewable energy" and so do we'.
