Kakapotahi River
The Kākāpōtahi River flows through open, flat farmland before diving steeply into a stunningly beautiful granite gorge, with sheer walls and aqua blue water.
Ferns and mosses carpet the canyon walls, and only a thin strip of blue sky can be seen above the canyon walls. From this top gorge, the river drops into another, less steep but equally as beautiful, gorge.
The Kākāpōtahi River is very popular with whitewater kayakers, with the top gorge a difficult test piece for kayakers and the bottom gorge a more moderate, scenic kayak trip.
The Kākāpōtahi River appears in Government lists of potential hydro schemes.
